Open Track Lightning Talk: Clarity of Copyright in Plains to Peaks Digital Collections

Clarity of Copyright in Plains to Peaks Digital Collections is an exploration of copyright statements attached to digital objects provided by member organizations of the Plains to Peaks Collective, which has recently introduced 181,000 items into the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). This study uses a descriptive research method to examine a sample of objects already ingested into the DPLA system and determine if (a) those objects have copyright statements and (b) those statements accurately reflect the copyright status of the object. The goal is to promote clarification of the reuse value of these objects for collection users.
