Bio
Raven Lanier is the Senior Copyright and Policy Specialist at the University of Michigan Center of Academic Innovation (CAI). In her work at CAI, she has helped hundreds of faculty navigate the copyright issues that come up when creating massive open online courses, credit-bearing online degree courses, and other forms of online content. She manages a small team that reviews third-party content used in CAI supported online courses and has created a variety of practical guides on how to thoughtfully use the copyrighted works of others in online courses. She previously worked at the U-M Library Copyright Office, where she focused on making copyright law engaging and understandable, consulted with faculty and students on copyright issues, and helped the U-M community find and leverage open and Creative Commons licensed materials. Raven received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and is a member of the Michigan State Bar.
