Bio
Martin Garnar is the outgoing dean of the Kraemer Family Library at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. He started teaching professional ethics for the University of Denver’s library and information science program in 2005 and has served as chair of the ALA Intellectual Freedom Committee, the ALA Committee on Professional Ethics, and the ACRL Professional Values Committee. During Martin's tenure as chair of the Committee on Professional Ethics, the committee issued its first-ever interpretation of the Code of Ethics on the topic of copyright. Martin is a frequent speaker on ethics and intellectual freedom at state, regional, and national events, and is serving as the editor for the forthcoming 10th edition of the ALA Intellectual Freedom Manual. As of August 1st, he will be the director of the Amherst College Library in Massachusetts.
