These two lawsuits both address the fundamental issue to what degree universities can copy materials for classroom use without paying a licensing fee. They look at this issue, however, from very different postures and in different contexts. By looking at them together, we have an opportunity to understand each situation more deeply, and especially to explore the similarities and differences between fair use and fair dealing.
