Open Track Presentation: DC Update - The Copyright Stakeholders

Tue, 06/11/2019
03:00 PM - 04:30 PM

Berger Hall (University Center)

When we think about the development of copyright legislation, we generally assume long drawn out battles between users of information or libraries vs. the “content community” – Hollywood, the recording industry, and publishers. This assumption has changed dramatically from two decades ago. The library associations now negotiate with a number of new players. Of course, the digital platform industry is one of those players.  The “content community” has morphed into the “creatives,” seemingly to embrace all artists, musicians, writers, and other creators.  In this environment, how has the development of copyright policy changed, and do we still face an uphill battle protecting users’ rights to information? This session will explore these topics and the increased importance of coalitions.
