Bio

Dave Hansen is Duke University Libraries' Associate University Librarian for Research, Collections & Scholarly Communications. He works to help Duke faculty, students and librarians understand and improve the scholarly publishing system across all phases of the research lifecycle.  He has expertise in copyright law and other legal issues that play a role in that system, as well as the economics, incentives, and technology associated with publishing and access to cultural and scientific works. Dave came to Duke in November 2016 from UNC School of Law, where he was a Clinical Assistant Professor and Faculty Research Librarian. Prior to that, from 2011 to 2014, he was a fellow with the Berkeley Digital Library Copyright Project. In those roles, he wrote and taught about intellectual property law and online access to cultural and scientific works. Dave holds a law degree from UNC-Chapel Hill where he also earned his M.S. in Library Science.
